Demo Day 47
This Devlog outlines the changes since the last demo.
UI Stuff
The main thing I've been working on is what little UI this game needs. There's now a little main menu as well as a pause menu. The most important thing is the options menu which lets you toggle fullscreen and integer scaling, adjust volume and select the palette. Rebinding controls is not yet implemented.
Tutorial Signs
Throughout the first few levels are now some signs that explain the game mechanics. Press down to read them. They still need a prompt and the text needs alignment, but they work
New enemy - Steelhead
This new enemy will charge at the player the moment he enters its line of sight. Better watch out.
Background tiles and five completely new levels
I've added some background tiles and replaced the five levels from the last demo with new ones. The old levels had all of those leaps of faith of course, and were just too open for the small resolution in general. These new levels should be more suited for the Game Boy resolution and generally contain about 90% less bullshit.
New camera and hook fixes
To help with the leap of faith issue and low resolution the camera has been reworked. It now pans left and right depending on which direction the player is facing and you can look up and down using the direction keys or buttons.
Some bugs with the jumping and hook mechanics have been ironed out which should make things far less frustrating.
In case the game crashes on launch you need to delete the old config file from the last demo as it is not compatible.
That's all for now. might've missed something, dunno. I hope you enjoy it.
